Speed Running Through Minds | Uppercute Demo Review
A new platform runner with a heavy focus on speedrunning has released a demo, and it has potential

A brand new game demo has been released, and it is addictive. Uppercute is a platform runner that has you taking control of Uppercute, who, with the help of her sister, jumps into people's minds. The game description talks about a thrilling story of Uppercute and her sister, Hyper, joining together in order to find their missing brother. Sadly, the demo doesn’t touch on the story, but with such a deep storyline, I feel like things can only get more intense as the game progresses.
As a 3D platformer, you need to jump through hoops (literally) and collect orbs in order to unlock the end of the level. Alongside the orbs, there are enemies you can fight to get more orbs. Punching enemies can keep you elevated in the air, so use that to your advantage. Enemies can also be a great boost to reach high-up platforms. Jump up, then slam down to bounce! The best part of defeating enemies is the chance of gaining a powerful ability. From a super punch that hits through a full health bar to uppercuts to get more height, enemies are an incredible resource.
Uppercute has a major focus on speed running. You can take the stage as slow as you’d like or need, but in the end, you will be graded on how quickly you finish the level. This means that the quicker you dash, hop, and punch through enemies, the better grade you’ll get. This adds amazing repeatability to each level if you are someone who wants to earn an S rating on all the stages. If you are a fan of games like Neon White, this is the perfect game to give a try. Earning that S is not an easy task. You have to be precise and purposeful with each move in order to make the most optimal route. Even a single mistake could mean you end up with an A instead of an S.
This is already a thrilling runner and I am excited for the full release sometime this year. The bright colored visuals and Cyberpunk-like aesthetic make this a joy to look at and I think anyone who enjoys speed running or platformers would love this game. I’m also incredibly excited to see what kind of story the full game has to tell because we have only see the very tip of the iceberg.
